What is Alopecia?

Alopecia is a condition that affects women as well as men and can cause complete or partial hair loss. Female pattern baldness known as androgenic alopecia can be hereditary or it can be influenced by hormonal factors including the menopause and is more prevalent in those aged 65 and upwards. Alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss and can affect up to 50% of women and 70% of men at some point in their lifetime. Men typically present with hairline recession at the temples and vertex balding while women normally diffusely thin over the top of their scalps. Both genetic and environmental factors play a role, and many of its modalities remain unknown. The eyebrows can also be affected by alopecia as well as over tweezing, threading and waxing. All these processes can result in permanent eyebrow hair loss. One thing we know for sure is the level of distress it causes its sufferers and successful treatments are very few. Eyebrows are considered the frame of the face and with micropigmentation they can be once again recreated.

How does Alopecia eyebrow procedure work?

Alopecia eyebrow treatment is a semi-permanent makeup process that can be skilfully applied to recreate your lost eyebrows so that they appear totally natural. With our especially developed needles we can mimic individual fine hairs to reconstruct your eyebrows in a three dimensional illusion once your desired template has been expertly mapped out. No one would ever know your eyebrows are not real unless you told them. The treatment involves implanting pharmaceutical grade eyebrow pigments in the upper layers of the skin to create a look that is just right for you, be it natural looking hair strokes, powder brow or something that is as bold as your own personality. The list is endless, and the choice is yours.

What will I expect in my consultation and treatment?

We understand the importance of one’s appearance, confidence levels and self-esteem. We aim to do our best in using our expertise and artistic skills in helping you achieve that by recreating your lost features and putting the smile back where it belongs. As with any procedure, consent and release forms will need to be filled out and these will contain your treatment plan along with a log of pigment blends and needles used.

Careful mapping and drawing of the template and pigment choice will be demonstrated before any pigment is implanted into the skin which will be documented by photographic evidence. For your safety we only use single-use consumables and the finest grade of pharmaceutical colour pigments. The procedure takes approximately one hour and 30 mins which includes numbing the area with a topical anaesthetic cream. Aftercare advise will be given in order to achieve the best results. A second application may be required after four weeks depending on pigment retention.
