What are the semi-permanent eyebrow treatments?

Semi-permanent eyebrow procedures are a sophisticated method of tattooing to recreate or enhance one’s eyebrows. The treatment is known as micropigmentation, semi-permanent or permanent make-up – it’s all the same!

The procedure is considered semi medical and should only be carried out by fully qualified technicians using pharmaceutical grade pigments and suitable devices which are safe. The most popular eyebrow enhancement for women is the hair-stroke method which mimics tiny hairs following the natural hair growth pattern. This can be done by machine method, which is our preferred choice, while some technicians are doing it by hand; more popularly known as microblading.

The machine method when carried out by an expert, is less traumatic, lasts longer, doesn’t cause scarring and is far more comfortable. The current trends are hair stroke brows, powder brows within the natural brow shape and ombre’ brows which has stronger accents in the tail and fades out to the front. Ombre’ brows give a more dramatic impact and is favoured by those who love their makeup. The options will be discussed during your consultation. 

How do eyebrow procedures work?

Micropigmentation procedures are a form of tattooing and are generally carried out using high-tech programmable digital devices with a sterile, single-use, needle cartridge fitted to a handpiece. We only use safety cartridges to implant pharmaceutical grade pigments into the superficial layers of the skin and the cartridges are fitted with a backflow membrane to prevent cross contamination. Your eyebrow enhancement can be in fine hair strokes, powder mist, or ombre,’ which is accented at the tail and fades to the front of the brow.

What will I expect in my consultation and treatment?

During your consultation your eyebrow shape will be meticulously outlined using drawing markers and mathematically worked out according to your bone structure and requirements. We will work together to achieve your preferred colour choice which will be custom blended before any semi-permanent process begins. Your template to form your new eyebrows will be photographed so you can see the improvements about to take place. The treatment can be either in hair stoke effect, powder brow effect or ombre’ effect. Our methods at Smudge-free are all carried out using our especially developed needles, the latest in digital technology and the finest in pharmaceutical grade pigments which have a proven safety profile of over 30 years.

The procedure takes roughly 1 hour including the application of a topical anaesthetic cream for 20-30 minutes. When the treatment is carried out by an experienced technician the results should appear undetectable and natural. It is recommended to have a colour boost every 12-18 months to keep your eyebrows looking their best.
