What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment known in the medical industry as collagen induction therapy (CIT).  The treatment is designed to regenerate the skin and assist in new collagen growth by way of controlled micro-trauma which is created by using a cylindrical device that has tiny needles around it.

The idea of the treatment is to micro-puncture the skin by rolling the dermaroller device over it to create tiny open channels to allow peptides and skin protocols to activate the process by infusion The treatment is designed as a course of treatments for maximum benefit and should be spaced four weeks apart to allow for full wound healing and continued effect. The initial course is based on five or six treatments, and thereafter bi-monthly to keep your skin in optimum condition.

How does Microneedling work?

The skin is first prepped with a topical anaesthetic cream for 30-40 minutes to make the treatment more comfortable. The treatment can be used on all areas of the body to tackle various skin conditions such as loose skin, promote collagen growth, uneven skin tone, soften scarred or burned skin, cellulite and can even help with stretch marks. The dermaroller device comes in various needle sizes which caters for a range of procedures. The correct one will be used according to the requirements of your specific treatment. Once the skin has been numbed, we then dermaroller the areas to be treated and at the same time we infuse the skin protocols to greater enhance the treatment’s effectiveness.

Over successive treatments you will notice an improvement is your skin’s overall appearance, skin tone and firmness and also in the plumpness. If your treatment was for acne scarring or stretchmarks you will see visible results from the first treatment which will continued to improve over time. The treatment works best with successive treatments and the results are cumulative and continue to show improvement for several months ahead. We recommend a treatment once every two months thereafter to keep your skin in its optimum condition.

What will I expect in my consultation and treatment?

Dermaroller skin treatments can only be carried out on healthy skin with no existing skin conditions such as acne, lesions, fresh wounds or new scarring, psoriasis, or eczema. During your consultation we will evaluate your suitability for treatment. As with any semi medical procedure consent forms will need to be filled in and signed. We will also take before and after photographs to monitor the progress of your treatments. When you are having a course of dermaroller treatments it is important not to expose the areas to direct sunlight as the skin will become photo sensitive during the healing process and could result in hyperpigmentation, therefore a total sunblock must be worn in order to prevent this from happening by UV exposure.
Aftercare advice must be adhered to for best outcome.
